Well here we are back in Stonington enjoying the ambiance of a charming little New England coastal town. And there is Barb in her goin' ashore outfit. (Drove from Bloomfield to meet me.)

The night spent in Point Judith was a bit heart wrenching for me as I decided to abandon the journey to Maine. Oddly the following morning as I was struggling through the fog returning to Stonington the auto helm broke down which meant that there would be no way for me to leave the helm unattended for more than a very short time and this would make the journey incredibly difficult if not impossible single handed. I thought that the other boats in the group would stay in visual contact and become a community afloat but it turns out that everyone is on their own. I lost site of a larger (and faster) lead boat soon after leaving Stonington and it later dawned on me that this was a kind of race port to port with everyone basically on their own. Not what I signed on for really. Was I naive, yes, and deciding to back out was very hard for me but that I did the right thing. I certainly enjoyed what sailing I did do to get there and back even tho much of it was spent motoring and moving through fog is very attention getting.

Now at home and with a day spent in the garden I'm feeling more failure recovered and still not sure what to do with my gift of time.

Check out some of the harvest...............

Not sure what I'm going to do with all these tomatoes. The ones furthest right are the most
delicious, the upper left are plums ready for sauce, yum.

Point Judith Pond

Anchored in the pond. Went swimming and had dinner on another boat as a guest. The pond is quite far up the channel from The Harbor of Refuge. Very peaceful. Long haul tomorrow up to Padanaram. Though less than from Block Island which was the original stop.

Stonington

First stop. Stonington, CT. Hot and little wind to get here. Comfortably moored though and cooling down. Readying for tomorrow then a little walk ashore.
